What happens if I am going away on holiday?

B

When you are paying for the gold course package, you may need to change a few dates due to holidays, illness or appointments. Please use my online booking system called Class Swap to change your class at least 12 hours before the class you should be attending. This may mean you attend twice a week for a few weeks before or after your holiday in the current course. Credits to the following course are not given. If you give me under 12 hours' notice, no credits or refunds will be given.

What should I expect in a Pilates class?

B
C

In my classes, you will perform a series of controlled movements that focus on core stability (strength from the inside to the outside), alignment and breathing. Each class is structured to improve flexibility, strength, coordination, proprioception (knowing where your body is without looking at it) and balance. I emphasize correct technique and offer modifications to ensure exercises are appropriate for your fitness level. Every class has a gentle start checking in with the posture, the centre (your inside core muscles) and the breath with gentle movements, then we focus on the main class pilates movements, for example, to strengthen and stretch the spine and finally finish with some releases perhaps using the spiky massage balls, dynamic and static stretches and reminder of the homework.

What should I wear to a Pilates class?

B
C

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. Wear layers that you can easily put on and take off depending on how hot or cold you are feeling. Leggings, tracksuit or shorts and a fitted top are ideal. You may practice barefoot, or wear non-slip (grippy) socks, or wear shoes in Chairlates if you are not using a mat. Please avoid clothing that may hinder movement, such as jeans, zips and buttons.

Do I need any special equipment?

B
C

For mat-based Pilates classes, please bring an exercise mat and a head cushion or folded towel. If you're attending a Chairlates classes, you don't need to bring a mat or head cushion. At your first class you can see us using small equipment such as a stretchy band, small soft pilates ball, pair of light hand weights and a pair of spiky massage balls which you may wish to bring for your next class.

How many times a week should I do Pilates?

B
C

For optimal results, it is recommended to practice Pilates 2-3 times a week. This frequency helps reinforce the principles of Pilates and promotes steady progress. You are welcome to book more classes with me. However, even one session a week can offer benefits, especially if you are just starting out. I also offer a Pilates and Chairlates video library of my classes for those signed up for my termly gold package. Plus, I give pilates homework during my classes to practice at home, which is described in my weekly email sent to those signed up for my termly gold package. This gives you other options to increase the frequency of your pilates practice.
